Bastille day festival and market in Willoughby. The perfect time for some genuine Joie de Vivre. It took a bit to get to, after getting lost at least once and what a pleasant surprise, look at this it's just gorgeous. Gazebos, breton shirts, berets and good feelings. Also look at that attractive Frenchman.
I think it's time for lunch. The crepe place is so busy they tell me to come back in half an hour. So I agree, and say oh well I will shop. I wanted the business card of that cheese shop. Google search fromage.
I do the round of the markets, twice, deciding what to buy with my tiny budget. A lady selling bric a brac has some silver treble clef earrings. They're not bad. As she wraps them for me she tells me she has them because she used to sing and I say, so did I, I used to sing too.
Then I bought a charming chocolate advertisement printed onto a tea towel which is now hanging in my kitchen. Making sure there is enough for coffee, the coffee shop is built onto a motorbike. It's just so cool. Should I get a motorbike license and sell coffee? All afternoon the singers voice wafts throughout the market. And I sit down at a picnic table and relax.
Crepes turn out to be a really good thing, you know what got inspired, my pancake addiction. The choices for fillings are endless. I have been wanting to share my pancake recipe anyway, as it is healthier than others. So here it is.
Put one cup of wholemeal flour, one egg and one cup of milk and water in a mixing bowl. Beat until you have a nice smooth mixture. Fry on a skillet for about 1 minute on each side.
Eat with a little honey, or lemon and sugar. Or blueberries and cream, or bacon and maple syrup or salmon spinach and cheese, or chicken, mushrooms and ricotta, or any number of compositions that you can imagine. These are a nice generous lunch and should do you through until dinner. Miam miam.
The festival winds down, suburnt and happy, if a little wistful, we take our leave. Thank You Paris actually Willoughby for cheese, wine, crepes, beautiful music, and a day full of Joie de Vivre, the perfect place for my artist date. Vive la France.
