Everybody (unless you are disabled) uses their hands for work, chores and hobbies. But sometimes the activity takes it's toll and you can get RSI, Arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome amongst other illnesses of the joints and tendons. In these cases it can become very painful to use your hands. This can be frustrating and disappointing in life. Thankfully there are some things you can do that can prevent and repair damage to your hands.
Basin.
If your hands are sore and you need some relief fill a basin with hot water and dunk your hands in it for a minute. Then fill the basin up with cold water and dunk your hands in it for a minute. Repeat a few times.
Fish oil
Fish oil is often recommended for joint problems. If you don't eat fish you can try vegan omega three capsules.
Curcumin
I can personally testify that curcumin is excellent for your joints. It's also meant to be a super-food that helps you to feel young and well.
Pliers
You can buy hand exercising pliers at a general store. You only have to use them for a little bit (say 20 reps) each day to improve the strengths of your hands.
Weights
Doing Weights strengthens your whole body and skeletal and muscular system.
Stretches
Stretching your hands relieves cramps and increases blood flow.
Breaks
Take at least a ten minute break every two hours and stretch your hands and body.
Compression gloves.
Wear these if your hands are very sore. You can also wear them overnight, they are very beneficial for sore hands.
Work
Work can strengthen your hands but it can also cause RSI and other issues with your joints. It's important to find your own balance with what helps and what doesn't help. Don't push yourself too much through the experience of pain. Get plenty of rest and practice healthy ergonomics such as a good desk chair and good posture. Try to affirm that your work will strengthen your hands.
Appearance
Don't forget to moisturise, treat and use sunscreen on your hands. Look out for discolorations and if they appear get them seen to by your doctor. Now and again coat your hands with almond oil and wear some cotton gloves overnight. You will be amazed how soft and healthy they feel.
Ginger
Ginger is an anti-inflammatory. This can help with pain and irritation in the hands. Add one tea-spoonful of crushed ginger to a cup of tea and enjoy.
Physiotherapy
Your physiotherapist will work with you to diagnose the problem and develop a set of exercises that can help to relieve pain and strengthen the hands.
Medication
Your doctor might provide special medicines for arthritis. They could also prescribe pain meds in the event that it is so bad that you need them.
There are many topical treatments for muscle and joint pain such as tiger-balm or fisiocrem. These may provide some temporary relief.
So we have covered a few different ways to look after your hands, relieving pain and preventing further damage. Your hands are one of your most important assets. It's important that you look after them so that you can keep active well into old age.
