Going Green.

Photo by Karsten Würth on Unsplash

With the weather soaring into heated temperatures and crazy weather patterns all over the world, more people are concerned about the state of the environment and what they can do to help. So here are a few helpful hints for doing your fair share. I know it's a lot, and it's tempting to opt for more convenient options, but just try to do what you can. Even something as simple as tuning the lights off when you're not in the room can make a profound difference.

Turn the lights off when you're not in the room.

Pay your electricity company for green power. If they don't have this option, switch to a company that does.

Use a thermos to keep your tea or coffee hot, rather than boiling the kettle over and over again keep some tea or coffee in a thermos flask.

Recycle: Look for the little recycling symbols on your packaging and recycle accordingly.

Install solar power. If you own your own home, install solar panels. It's cheaper and you might even make money from giving your left-over energy back to the grid.

Eat a plant-based diet. Avoid meat and dairy. Cow dung contributes to greenhouse gasses. Go vegan and support the environment.

Turn things off when you're not using them. Try to be aware of the power you are using. A little bit goes a long way and if everybody does it, it will skyrocket our fight for a thriving mother earth.

Have shorter showers. This wastes less power and less water too!

Hang the washing on the line, a blend of solar and wind power and, there's nothing like fresh linen that's been hung in the sunlight. If you live in an apartment, use one of those drying racks. If you have to use the dryer, use dryer wool balls, it halves your drying time. Which is good news for the environment and for your pocket.

Use public transport. If we all stopped driving, we would stop global warming in its tracks.

Walk or Cycle. This is not only good for the environment but it's good for your body and mind as well.

Use energy sufficient appliances, these may cost more but they're cheaper to run and better for the environment.

Shop local, this saves on fuel and also supports local business.

Buy your clothes in op-shops. Fast fashion is a villain to the environment. Op shop clothes are cheaper, can be better quality and support charity.

Say goodbye to plastic.

Petition your government to go green. Support green charities, sign petitions and vote Green! Go to protests!

Upcycle things. If you are a crafts person, try to upcycle old things into new.

See if you can repair something before you throw it away.

Use the economy cycle on the dishwasher. Dishwashers aren't so bad; you would be using hot water anyway and they're quite cheap to run.

Fix leaking taps. Leaking taps can waste copious amounts of water, get it fixed!

Buy an electronic car. They say these are better for the environment.

Relax in nature. It's free! Protect our forests, have appreciation for mother earth. Buy second-hand furniture. Don't waste paper.

Grow your own veggies. If you have a garden, consider growing a veggie garden. It's a relaxing hobby that is healthy, money saving, greener and yummy.

Adopt your pets. Someone needs a home. Adopt a pet today and grant them a new chance at life.

Recycle your sneakers. Just run a search in the search engine to recycle your sneakers in your area and you should find somewhere nearby to recycle your sneakers.

Freeze your food. Cut down on waste by storing things in the freezer.

Be bee friendly. Plant flowers for bees to feed on. Bees pollinate plants and therefore bring food to  our tables.

Use beeswax food wraps - instead of cling wrap.

Use loose leaf tea, teabags have plastic in them. It' also makes for a really nice cuppa.

Use your refillable grocery bags (keep it folded up in your purse, so you don't forget)

Use menstrual cups or reusable cloth pads

Use a reusable water bottle. Please don't buy bottled water, it is usually bottled in plastic and is just a waste.

Use a reusable coffee cup. Some cafes will even give you a discount for using your own cup. In Australia alone we throw away 1.2 billion coffee cups every year.

Buy organic. Organic food is better for the environment and for your health.

Boycott palm oil, the use of palm oil effects the habitat of Orangutangs and other flora and fauna.

Don't use single use plastics.

Don't buy from companies that exploit foreign workers.

Boycott animal testing and animal cruelty.

Change your manufacturing of things to make it environmentally friendly.

So here is to a thriving environment and a balanced mother earth. - That we can hand down to the children of today the promise of calm weather; healthy oceans and less consumer waste. That the weather will be normal. That we are responsible to our planet. That we are charitable and not greedy. That we form warm, supportive communities and support small business. That we may return to cottage industries. That our cities won't be polluted and we can see the stars. That we eat nutritious home grown food. That joie-de-vivre doesn't necessarily involve spending lots of money. And that we live in harmony with nature!

Create Your Day.

Photo by  Sedki Alimam  on  Unsplash This article is about the power of intention. Intentions are like a seed, that we sow and, later reap. Say that we set our intention, to enjoy our day. So you say to yourself, I intend to enjoy my day. I might later on do this, or that because it will help me to enjoy my day. Or, I might work in the cafe today, because it is nice weather and the time will pass by pleasantly. Or something more specific, I would really enjoy to have lunch with friends, so I arrange that. I intend for the conversation to go well, and all of us have a great time, and we do. Then, maybe a week later, I do like to dance for my exercise but I also like the luxury of the gym, it's just something that I like, so I think I will spend one evening at the gym this week. So Yay! Then suddenly I am quantum leaping, from one enjoyment to another, reaping what I sowed. And this is such a learning experience, because I am experiencing my own power, a...
