About Yoga
The practice of yoga began in ancient India,. Yoga means to yoke, and it can mean to unite with God or to unite with the self. Yoga didn't enter into the Western world until the early 20th Century. But these days yoga is very popular throughout the western world. There are about a dozen different forms of the discipline of yoga and you can read about that here: Types of Yoga The style in this article is basically Hatha Yoga.

If you want to learn yoga, it is recommended that you take a class first so that you can learn properly from an instructor. Outlined below is a yoga sequence you can practice by yourself. You should hold the poses for 150 counts. If you are short of time hold them for 100 counts. If they are hard try to do them for 60 counts or if they are very hard or inverted hold them for only 30 counts. You can play some Tibetan chimes or something like that while you practice if you like. Doing yoga in the park is a pleasant way to while away an afternoon. If it is hard to balance such as in tree pose, you can use a chair as a barre or lean against a wall or heavy bookshelf or even a tree if you are outside. . Feel free to modify the poses to your best abilities. Don't do anything that is too hard or painful.
